Looking for suggestions on cleaning filter cartridges for a dust collector.
I retrofitted a bag type 2 H.P. collector with a filter cartridge to replace the cloth bag and looking for a better way to keep the cartridge reasonably clean. The CFM drops considerably when the cartridge loads up.
Wondering if anyone has tried using some type of mechanical vibrator on the unit? This would need to take place when the blower is off so the cartridge would release the caked dust/debris and let it fall down into the dust container.   I'm thinking perhaps a small high rpm motor with an offset weight on the shaft and mounted to the side of the unit.
This is not a cyclone type collector.
Thanks
Nelson

Nelson, I've got two of those great big filters stacked on top of each other for my cyclone. Occasionally I over fill the bucket and it all goes into the filter clogging it very badly. One time, with it all still attached to the system I blew compressed air into the filter from the outside. It pretty much blasted it out of the baffles and let it all fall gently to the bottom where I vacuumed it out of the clean out hatch. Might give that a try.

I've noticed that most of the dust collection mfgs are going to pleated filters and there is a real "gotcha" there as I think they will only last so long and will need to be replaced. I inquired at my local power tool
dealer on the cost of replacement filters and the cost was was enough for me to say no way no how. Recurring
expenses I try to avoid as much as possible. I use the bags on my dust collector and a Delta whole shop air cleaner mounted on the ceiling of my shop for the fine stuff, and those filters are no bargain either. I wish I bought stock in filter manufacturers!

Nelson I've got one, but it came with a built in paddle and a handle on top so when you turn the handle it shakes the filters and makes the caked up dust fall into the bag.

Russell--I've seen those somewhere as replacement cartridges. Anyone remember the source?

Thanks

Nelson, I know that Jet has a retrofit cannister available for their 1 1/2hp model. Not knowing what brand you have, I'd just do a Google search for dust collector cannister. I only wish I made enough dust to justify buying one.

Hi Nelson

Fine Dust Extractor

This is the one I have Badged as Axminster a Uk Brand, but I'm sure it is generic.

If you need any measurements or anything just let me know.

Russell
